NFL Notebook | Cowboys' Owens says he will play

IRVING, Texas — Terrell Owens warmed up for practice Friday, then went to see a trainer about his injured ankle.

Problem? Nope, quite the opposite.

Owens felt so good he wanted the protective tape he'd been wearing cut off. Then he ran to join his teammates who were lined up to stretch, slapping hands and practically doing a victory lap on his way to his spot, complete with waving his right index finger.

"I'm good," Owens said later, at his locker. "See you Sunday."

The team's official report listed his participation in practice as limited and his game status as questionable. Coach Wade Phillips was more hopeful about having his All-Pro receiver in the lineup Sunday against the New York Giants. Phillips added that if Owens can play, he'll start.

"Terrell said he's going to play and I believe him. I think he will attempt to play and we will let him," Phillips said. "To what degree, at what level, remains to be seen in the game."

Notes

• Broncos TE Daniel Graham was arrested on a charge of harassing his former girlfriend, who said the player hit a bedpost after an argument about the sale of their home.

Graham was arrested on suspicion of criminal mischief and harassment and released on a personal recognizance bond, the Arapahoe County sheriff's department said. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 18.

• Browns defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, once considered a possible successor to coach Romeo Crennel, was unexpectedly fired after Cleveland's defense finished the season as one of the NFL's worst units. Grantham's dismissal came just months after the fiery 41-year-old signed a two-year contract extension.

Kyle Shanahan, 28, was promoted to offensive coordinator of the Texans, making him the youngest at that position in the NFL. Houston also hired Alex Gibbs as assistant head coach.

• The asterisk Jacksonville had on its Web site next to New England's perfect record, a mark indicating the Patriots were caught cheating in one game this season, was removed Friday. Jaguars.com senior editor Vic Ketchman put the asterisk next to the Patriots in his weekly power rankings in "an attempt at subtle humor."
