NFL Notebook | Early reinstatement for Pacman?

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Suspended cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones will meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in New York today about a possible early reinstatement.

Goodell suspended the Titans cornerback in April for the 2007 season and promised the case could be reviewed after the Titans' 10th game, which is Nov. 19 in Denver. But today's meeting comes two days before the Titans' eighth game.

The NFL declined to comment. Neither of Jones' attorneys, Manny Arora, of Atlanta, nor Worrick Robinson, of Nashville, immediately answered messages left by The Associated Press.

The meeting first was reported by The Tennessean.

Goodell suspended Jones in April for violating the league's personal conduct policy. At the time, Jones had been arrested five times since being drafted by the Titans sixth overall in 2005. He was arrested a sixth time in June on charges from a Las Vegas strip-club fight.

Jones told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in October he thought he had done enough to be reinstated early.

"I did pretty much everything Mr. Goodell asked me to do. So all I can do is just wait and go back to speak with him," Jones said.

Jones is the only NFL player suspended for an entire season under the personal conduct policy, and the Titans were under the impression he would not return this year. They drafted Michael Griffin, among other moves, to replace Jones on the roster.

Coach Jeff Fisher was asked last week about the possibility of Jones returning early from his suspension.

"That's not been discussed," Fisher said. "Pac is suspended for the year, and that's the approach we're taking."

Judge critical

of Reid's home

NORRISTOWN, Pa. — A judge who sentenced Eagles coach Andy Reid's sons to jail likened the coach's home to "a drug emporium" and questioned whether his adult sons should live there, given their drug problems.

"There isn't any structure there that this court can depend upon," Montgomery County Judge Steven O'Neill said before sentencing Reid's son Britt to up to 23 months in jail plus probation.

Earlier Thursday, O'Neill sentenced Garrett Reid, a drug addict and dealer who said he got a thrill out of selling drugs in "the 'hood," to up to 23 months in jail for smashing into another motorist's car while high on heroin.

O'Neill said that searches of the Reid family's house and vehicles found a long list of drugs, guns and ammunition.

"It sounds more or less like a drug emporium there with the drugs all over the house, and you're an addict," O'Neill told Britt Reid.

Police found a shotgun and hollow-point bullets along with cocaine, marijuana and OxyContin in the vehicle Britt Reid was driving during a Jan. 30 road-rage encounter, and later found a handgun at the house that they believe he had brandished at the other driver.

Both sons lived at their parents' home in the suburb of Villanova at the time of their arrests.

• The Broncos have lost two more players for the season. Coach Mike Shanahan said that WR Rod Smith's hip isn't recovering fast enough and he won't be activated this season. In addition, rookie DE Jarvis Moss broke his right shin in practice. He will have surgery in the next few days and be out for three to four months.

• Colts WR Marvin Harrison (bruised knee) sat out a second straight day of practice and may not play Sunday against New England.

• Jets WR Laveranues Coles missed his second straight day of practice because of a concussion.

• Bills QB Trent Edwards missed his second straight practice because of a swollen right hand. Coach Dick Jauron said he'll wait until practice today before deciding whether to promote former Seahawk Gibran Hamdan to No. 2 behind J.P. Losman, who will make his first start in five weeks against Cincinnati on Sunday.

• Panthers QB Vinny Testaverde missed practice for a second straight day with an Achilles tendon injury, increasing the chances David Carr will start Sunday at Tennessee.

• Cardinals ILB Karlos Dansby (sprained knee) took part in limited practice and said he might be able to play in another week.

• Chargers CB Drayton Florence was fined $15,000 by the NFL for his helmet-to-helmet hit that gave Texans QB Matt Schaub a concussion.

It was the second straight week Schaub was knocked out of the game by a helmet-to-helmet blow, and he will not start against Oakland on Sunday. Instead, Sage Rosenfels will make his third start of the career.

• Ravens QB Steve McNair, who missed two starts and then recuperated from back and groin injuries during Baltimore's off week, plans to be back under center on Monday against the 49ers.

• Raiders QB Josh McCown has recovered from a fractured left big toe, and he will start Sunday against the Texans instead of Daunte Culpepper.

• After spending one game as the backup quarterback, the Falcons' Joey Harrington will start Sunday against the 49ers.
