Seahawk Babineaux signs 5-year extension worth $17M
Seattle Times staff reporter
The Seahawks and defensive back Jordan Babineaux have agreed to a five-year contract extension worth up to $17 million with bonuses and incentives.
Babineaux, who made the practice squad as an undrafted free agent in 2004, signed the contract this morning at team headquarters in Kirkland.
Babineaux has increased his value to the Seahawks over the years because of his ability to effectively play cornerback, safety and on special teams. He has gone from the practice squad as a rookie to becoming a starter for 10 games, including the playoffs last season.
Babineaux, 25, signed a one-year restricted free agent tender for $1.3 million in the offseason to remain in Seattle. He would have become an unrestricted free agent, giving him freedom to sign with any team he chooses without waiting to see if the Seahawks would match any offer, at the end of the 2007 season.
