NFL Wire Notes | Baltimore's Billick says Jets' ploy was "illegal"

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Ravens coach Brian Billick accused the New York Jets of using an "illegal" ploy to draw Baltimore offside during Sunday's game.

Billick said Monday that the Jets' defense shouted out signals to intentionally throw off the Baltimore offense. Billick claimed the tactic led to three illegal-procedure penalties against the Ravens, who won 20-13.

"They did an outstanding job. I credit the New York Jets. Their defensive line and linebackers did a very, very effective job of illegally simulating the snap count," Billick said. "They did it the whole game long. It needs to be caught."

Ravens tackle Adam Terry jumped twice, and tight end Quinn Sypniewski did so once.

"I don't know how to help my linemen with that because, you're in the heat of battle and you're calling the snap count, and the guy across from you is also calling a snap count — which is illegal," Billick said.

Meanwhile, Baltimore defensive end Trevor Pryce broke his wrist in the third quarter, had surgery and is expected to miss from three to five games.

Belichick agrees to league's request

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The league might soon find out if the New England Patriots' video spying went beyond the Sept. 9 game against the New York Jets, and the Patriots might provide the evidence.

New England coach Bill Belichick said he will comply — "of course" — with the league's request to provide any notes or tapes made from video recordings similar to those that drew severe sanctions against him and the Patriots.

Dallas mulls signing ex-Husky Johnson

DALLAS — The Dallas Cowboys will bring in suspended defensive lineman Tank Johnson, who played college ball at Washington, for a physical today, multiple sources told The Dallas Morning News.

Johnson, serving an eight-game suspension without pay, was released by the Chicago Bears in June. The 25-year-old spent 60 days in jail in the offseason for violating probation on a weapons charge.

Notes

• Detroit quarterback Jon Kitna, a former Seahawk who played college ball at Central Washington, left the game Sunday against Minnesota in the second quarter because of a concussion. But he returned in the fourth and helped the Lions beat Minnesota 20-17 in overtime.

"I've never felt anything like that, and for it to clear up and go right back to as normal as I can be, is nothing short of a miracle," Kitna said. "I just definitely feel the hand of God. That's all it was. You can't explain it."

• ESPN reported quarterback Byron Leftwich, cut by Jacksonville before the season, might sign with Atlanta this week. Leftwich, 27, reportedly will take a team physical.

• Atlanta signed kicker Morten Andersen, 47, after cutting Matt Prater, 23, who missed two field goals Sunday. Andersen is the league's career scoring leader; he has 2,445 points.

• Buffalo tight end Kevin Everett, 25, is showing some movement in both hands and greater strength in his leg muscles, further positive signs for the player after a serious spinal cord injury Sept. 9.

• Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher, 49, got a contract extension through 2011, reportedly worth from $5.5 million to $6 million per year.

Meanwhile, Titans assistant coach Chuck Cecil, 42, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence the night before Sunday's 22-20 home loss to Indianapolis. Fisher and Cecil are former NFL players.
