Seahawks Camp | Day 17 highlights

Four downs with ...

Lance Laury, linebacker

Height: 6-2. Weight: 237.

Experience: 2 years.

College: South Carolina.

Hometown: Hopkins, S.C.

Born: Jan. 17, 1982.

You were a baseball prospect coming out of high school? I played center field and right field. I got drafted in baseball, but I kind of wanted to play football. The Chicago Cubs drafted me. It was like the 40th, 42nd round. Something like that. [It was actually 48th]. They were talking about sending me to junior college first. I really didn't want to do that. I always wanted to play football for South Carolina, so I tried out for Carolina and I made the team.

What did you bring to make training camp pass by? I brought some oldies music. Like Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley. Stuff like that.

What's the worst job you've ever had? I worked at an Indian restaurant, and I didn't really know where everything was at. What is it, the curries and stuff? I didn't know what it was.

What was your high-school mascot? The Diamonds. The Lower Richland Diamonds. Nobody could break the Diamonds.

Top offensive play: It was just a one-on-one pass-route drill, but Nate Burleson worked Kelly Jennings over pretty good on one exchange, making the cornerback grunt twice as he tried to adjust to Burleson's route. Burleson worked his way wide open.

Top defensive play: Safety Brian Russell nearly came away with a one-handed interception, breaking up a pass intended for Burleson.

Run-on conclusion: Coach Mike Holmgren concluded practice by having his team run a series of 50-yard gassers. "I took off the pads today," Holmgren said. "I don't do that because I'm just a really nice guy. I do it for reasons, and their end of the bargain is to practice fast and practice hard. I didn't think that was happening, and so that was just a little reminder to them."

Hairy situation: Skin is in for hairstyles. Marcus Trufant cut off the braids he has been growing for a number of years and went to a close-cropped cut, Marcus Tubbs is now sporting a Mohawk, and backup quarterback Erik Meyer decided to shear his hair down.
