Four downs with ...

Brandon Mebane, DT

Height: 6-1. Weight: 314.

Experience: Rookie (third-round choice).

College: California.

Hometown: Los Angeles. Age: 22.

Four things you have to have at camp with you? "Clock, my cellphones, just got a TV. I never had a TV the whole time I was in camp in college. That's pretty big. And come in being in shape."

Do you have a nickname? "I didn't give myself the name, but I got one back in high school and college. They called me 'Bang-Bang.' Sounds like my last name, Mebane."

Talk about your high school: "I went to Crenshaw High School (South Central Los Angeles, the high school of many famous athletes). I lived right across the street. When I was little, football wasn't the biggest sport at Crenshaw. Basketball won state and city titles like almost every year."

Top offensive play: After a catch over the middle, wide receiver Bobby Engram put a move on strong safety Brian Russell that kept Russell from even getting a hand on Engram.

Top defensive play: This was a day for the defense, as safeties Deon Grant and Mike Green delivered a couple of hard blows during the morning practice — the kind that send a message to a receiver — and DE Darryl Tapp got the best of his blocker on the pass rush several times.

Pollard's Polaroid moment: TE Marcus Pollard made a catch over the middle and ran into the open field, stopping to shuffle the ball between his legs in homage to his basketball days. He did this for several seconds in hopes of getting a bigger reaction from defensive-backs coach Jim Mora, but no such reaction came.

The day's big development: Coach Mike Holmgren, defensive line coach Dwaine Board and defensive consultant Ray Rhodes were not at practices Thursday so they could attend the funeral service for Bill Walsh, the legendary San Francisco 49ers coach who died July 30.

Gil Haskell, Seattle's offensive coordinator, oversaw practice. All three coaches left early Thursday morning for the San Francisco Bay Area and were expected back by Thursday evening.
