Seahawks Notebook | Hasselbeck healthy, remains resentful
Seattle Times staff reporter
KIRKLAND — Matt Hasselbeck had broken fingers and offseason surgery on his nonthrowing shoulder, but is now at full strength in practice.
The injury that frustrated the Seahawks quarterback the most last year, however, was a sprained right knee ligament that cost him four games.
"It was just such a pointless injury to me. Very avoidable," Hasselbeck said Monday at the end of practices. "Injuries happen. I have no problem with that. I have been hit many times very hard. Some cleaner hits than others, but to me that one was just ... "
Hasselbeck trailed off. He was unhappy with Minnesota Vikings linebacker E.J. Henderson, who rolled into his leg on the play Oct. 22 at Qwest Field and knocked Hasselbeck out of the game.
The Seahawks lost 31-13.
"It really changed our whole season. We lost that game and we shouldn't have lost that game," Hasselbeck continued. "I think what really bothered me was that it was just such a significant injury that didn't need to happen and really I got lucky. I got really lucky. There are guys that have missed more than a year from stuff like that."
The crack, revisited
When the crack in Shaun Alexander's left foot was discussed, coach Mike Holmgren made it clear the issue was no longer worth discussing and that his star running back was fine.
Alexander was asked Monday if the crack is indeed healed, and if he had seen what his foot looked like.
"No," Alexander said, with a chuckle. "I think when you're running good, you just kind of say 'Ah, let's ride,' you know?"
Alexander has run well the first two days of practices, and said his weight is neither up nor down. "I weighed 227 [Monday] morning, just like every camp the last seven years," he said. "I think I look skinnier ... but the weight's the same."

• The punters, projected starter Ryan Plackemeier and rookie Kyle Stringer from Boise State, got to kick during the morning practice.
• WR Bobby Engram and backup QB Seneca Wallace, who has been used at wide receiver before, were the return men for the punts, though WR Nate Burleson was the primary punt returner last season.
• K Josh Brown hit 4 of 5 field-goal tries, missing wide right from 43 yards during the afternoon practice. He hit from 33, 38, 48 and 53 yards.
