Top Pot Doughnuts opens in Bellevue

Top Pot, the small Seattle chain that sells doughnuts in Starbucks nationwide opens its fifth doughnut shop on Thursday, this one in Bellevue.

Seattle Times business reporter

Top Pot Doughnuts will open a store in Bellevue on Thursday, its first shop outside Seattle.

The chain has four stores in Seattle, including the original shop that opened on Capitol Hill in 2002. It was started by brothers Mark and Michael Klebeck and Joel Radin, and their doughnuts are now sold in more than 7,000 Starbucks stores in the U.S. and Canada.

Like true Seattleites, they got their start in the coffee business. Michael and Joel co-founded Bauhaus Books & Coffee in 1993, and Michael co-founded the original Zeitgeist Kunst & Kaffee in 1998. Two years later, the three of them got together to help build Zeitgeist's current space in Pioneer Square, although none of them is currently an owner there.

They got into doughnuts after Michael and his wife, Georgette, needed better-tasting doughnuts for Zeitgeist.

The new Bellevue store is in Washington Square, at 10600 NE 9th Place.
