Interbay hosts Mobile Chowdown, where meals come on wheels

Mobile Chowdown on Oct. 10 showcases some of the area's street-food carts and gourmet-taco trucks.

Seattle Times staff reporter

Coming up

Mobile Chowdown

Showcase of some of the area's street-food vendors, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, 1616 W. Bertona St. in the Interbay neighborhood, Seattle. Among vendors scheduled to appear: Marination Mobile, Skillet, Maximus/Minimus, Gert's, El Camion, Kaosamai, Dante's Inferno Dogs and Parfait. More information here.

It's going to be easy to find the street-food vendors Saturday in Interbay: follow the whiff of sauteed onions and beef in the air. Once you get closer, you might hear the sweet sound of sizzling pork.

The street-food vendors of Seattle will unite for one afternoon. This time, it's all about them. No ballgame or music festival to piggyback on. They are the main attraction.

Called Mobile Chowdown, the gathering showcases some of the area's street-food carts and gourmet-taco trucks, the culinary rage right now.

For workers who don't have a taco truck or street-food cart parked near their office complex, the event Saturday is a good opportunity to sample a wide range of street food: barbecue and fusion, comfort food and gourmet.

Skillet, with its vintage silver 1962 Airstream trailer, will serve its grilled burger and signature bacon jam.

Or try Korean tacos, the hottest trend in taco trucks, with bulgogi (spicy pork) or kalbi (marinated short ribs) tacos at Marination Mobile.

Or decide who has the best barbecue: Maximus/ Minimus or Gert's.

Bring a lawn chair if you want a seat.
