Happy Hour | A taste of Hawaii on Queen Anne at Genki Sushi

Genki Sushi, the popular Hawaii sushi chain, has a new location in Lower Queen Anne in Seattle, with happy-hour specials daily 3-7 p.m. and 10 p.m.-close.

Happy hour |

Genki Sushi. The mere mention is now sending folks scurrying to the Internet or to the bottom of this story to get restaurant hours.

With its legions of fans worldwide, this popular Hawaii-based sushi chain won't officially announce its opening until late January. But foodies have figured out that this conveyor-belt-style sushi restaurant has been open since mid-December in Lower Queen Anne.

Genki features a large sushi menu with everything under $5 — the only thing cheaper is, well, happy hour at Genki Sushi, where a dozen sushi items range from $1 to $3.80 (spicy tuna roll, $2.50; albacore nigiri, $2.20) and other food ranges from $1 to $3.50 (seafood spring roll, $2.80; tempura vegetables, $3.50).

The happy-hour downside: You can't grab the sushi from the conveyor belt at the designated happy-hour sections, the bar and tables by the window. But you can order anything on the conveyor belt from the waitress.

Genki Sushi, 500 Mercer St., Suite 2B (next to Office Depot and QFC), happy hour daily 3-7 p.m. and 10 p.m. until closing, when house sake costs $3.50 (small) or $8 (large), beer $3.50, well drinks $3 and the daily special cocktail $5 (206-453-3881 or www.genkisushiusa.com).
