Food news from around Puget Sound | Seahawks at the Met and more

Seahawks serve at The Met; BaconSalt founders create bacon-flavored mayonnaise; Café Presse to air presidential debates over dinner; Volunteer Park Café hosts wine dinner series; Macrina Bakery and Café opens new SoDo location; Puget Sound Mycological Society hosts 45th-annual mushroom festival; Angela Kay Isaacson new general manager at Poppy.

Seahawks at the Met

Craig Terrill and Darryl Tapp, Lawrence Jackson and other Seahawks will be serving rib eye steaks and Seahawk martinis as celebrity waiters at Seattle's Metropolitan Grill (820 Second Ave., 206-624-3287) 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 13 as part of a benefit for the Washington chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The Met will donate a portion of the dinner proceeds to the charity, along with proceeds from an auction of football memorabilia and the players' autographed server jackets.

Bacon, bacon everywhere

The local folks who brought you J&D's BaconSalt have a new product up their sleeves: Baconnaise. Yes, it's a bacon-flavored mayonnaise and sandwich spread, something BaconSalt co-founder Dave Lefkow says is long overdue in the pantheon of bacon-related products.

"I hate mayonnaise. I despise mayonnaise. But I like this," Lefkow said. "It's going to be great for sandwiches and for dips and for salads."

The new product's Web site, www.baconnaise.com, will be up and running by Oct. 11, around the time the product will begin arriving in QFC stores and Pike Place Market. In the meantime, look to www.baconsalt.com for more information about a launch party planned at Seattle's Kangaroo and Kiwi pub.

Other morsels

Wine series: Volunteer Park Café (1501 17th Ave. E., Seattle, 206-328-3155) is holding wine dinners the second Saturday of each month. Oct. 11 is Mercer Estate for $85 per person (plus tax and tip), followed by Tres Sabores Nov. 8 and McKinley Springs Dec. 13. Call ahead for a seat.

Now open: Macrina Bakery and Café's new SoDo location (1943 First Ave. S., 206-623-0919).

Hunters and gatherers: The Puget Sound Mycological Society presents its 45th-annual wild mushroom exhibit noon-7 p.m. Oct. 11 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 12 at the University of Washington Center for Urban Horticulture, with mushroom tasting, lectures, art and more. It's $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and free for kids 12 and under. Call 206-522-6031 for details.

On the move: Angela Kay Isaacson — a former cook at The Herbfarm, restaurant and bar manager at 6/7 at Hotel Edgewater, catering operations manager at Hotel 1000 and wine-appreciation instructor — is now general manager of Poppy restaurant.
