Learn to preserve at WSU class
Learn to plant a garden for year-round local eating with Washington State University's King County Extension 6:30-8:30 tonight at Third Place Commons (17171 Bothell Way N.E., Bothell, 206-366-3302).
Master preserver Jessica Dally will lead a free discussion about food preservation and share her advice on preserving fresh fruits and vegetables via jams and jellies, canning, dehydrations and other options.

Adventures in China
Join Jeffrey Alford and Naomi Duguid, authors of "Beyond the Great Wall: Recipes and Travels in the Other China," for cocktails, Chinese-style street food and a slide show of their adventures, 6:30 p.m. May 22 at Culinary Communion (2524 Beacon Ave. S., Seattle, 206-284-8687).
This latest Cooks & Books Visiting Chef Series party costs $85 per person and includes a signed copy of the book, which features 125 recipes and 300 color photographs from locations such as Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Yunnan and Guizhou.

New farmers market in SeaTac
The city of SeaTac will launch a weekly farmers market June 15 at Angle Lake Park, 19408 International Blvd. The market will run 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 14 and feature regional produce, flowers, crafts, baked goods and more. Vendor applications are still being accepted, and can be found on the city's Web site at www.ci.seatac.wa.us. Call economic development manager Todd Cutts at 206-973-4816 for more information.
