Congratulations to Mitch Watkins of Veradale who was the Reel Time Trivia winner on Feb. 17.

The trivia question on Feb. 13 was:

It is a long five-hour plus drive from Seattle, and just off I-90 to get to this oink-oink of a named lake in Eastern Washington that is always one of top ice fishing producer.

Folks will drive their cars to this lake on a rough, gravelly road, but a four-wheel drive is a much needed affair after it rains and especially once it snows. Fishing for stocker rainbows (about 14,000 catchables and 14,000 fry are planted each spring) at this special winter only fishing lake that is open Dec. 1 through March 31.

The fish can get big in this shallow 53-acre lake, and one must remember that the daily limit is five, and only two fish over 14 inches may be kept.

The correct answer Watkins gave was Hog Canyon Lake.

"I grew up fishing on Twin Lakes, Idaho (still my home lake) but my favorite memories are the summer trips to my grandfathers boat in Anacortes," Watkins said. "The Watkins men lived on that boat for two weeks at a time salmon fishing from Fisherman's Bay all the way up to Port Hardy."

"These days I'll drive the (shorter) 2.5 hours to Brewster and Lake Pateros to salmon fish," Watkins said. "Steelhead on the Snake River have my equal attention. My boys (1- and 3-years old) keep me at home for the time being, but we'll all be on the water in a few more years and I can hardly wait!"

Watkins wins a nice outdoor book.

This will be an ongoing weekly trivia contest where the winner who answers the question first will receive an outdoor prize that will range from books, Berkley bait, lures and other nifty items from the outdoors gunnysack.

The next trivia question will posted on Monday, Feb. 27. Winners are announced the following Friday.
