World Fishing Network celebrity Mariko Izumi hooks up her fishing show in Seattle
Posted by Mark Yuasa
TV fishing celebrity Mariko Izumi is in Seattle this weekend to film an upcoming episode of her reality fishing show Hookin' Up that airs on the World Fishing Network, the only 24/7 fishing channel.
The show challenges Izumi to complete a series of task, and usually one centers around fishing, while the others could range from eating, cooking to doing more outdoorsy type challenges.
Over the course of this past week, Izumi has done episodes along the West Coast in San Francisco, Portland, and finishing up here in Seattle.
Yesterday morning, Izumi fished with Keith Robbins, owner of A Spot Tail Salmon Guide in Seattle in Puget Sound for salmon.
"I had a lot of fun, the weather was great, and we caught some small salmon and a shark [dogfish]," Izumi said.
One of her first challenges was a stop at Pike Place Market to throw a salmon, and she will be filming more challenges in the Emerald City today and tomorrow.
Mariko who lives in Toronto, Canada, is the daughter of pro angler Wayne Izumi and uncle of Bob Izumi who also has a show on WFN and is a noted Pro Bass Angler on the Wal-Mart FLW Bass Tournament Series. Both Wayne and Bob are devoted anglers, and won Angling Team of the Year in 2004.
Mariko's show debuted last season, and she is currently filming her second season, which will air in January 2010. Currently the show can be seen on Dish Network, and they are in discussions and/or negotiations on a contract with the Comcast Network.
I'm writing a column on her show and some of the challenges she did along the West Coast so check out Thursday's paper in the sports section.
