LOS ANGELES — Comedian and talk-show host Byron Allen has sold a midcentury modern he owned in the "bird streets" area of the Hollywood Hills for $6.25 million after more than two years on the market. The house had been vacant for the last three years.
"I originally purchased the home for my mother, but she elected to have a home in a gated community with more security," Allen said.
Stylishly sleek, the four-bedroom, 3 ½-bathroom house has a swimming pool and views of downtown L.A., Century City and the Pacific Ocean through walls of glass.
The one-story, 3,562-square-foot home, built in 1965 and extensively remodeled, first came on the market at $6,995,000 in 2007.
Allen, 48, hosts "Comics Unleashed With Byron Allen," which is in its third season.
Jewel and the cowboy mosey on
LOS ANGELES — Singer-songwriter Jewel Kilcher and her husband, rodeo champion Ty Murray, have sold their Hollywood Hills house for $1.4 million.
The Spanish-style home has two bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1,781 square feet with canyon and city views. A third bedroom in the restored 1938 home had been converted to a master closet.
There is an updated kitchen, a brick patio, an office and an attached three-car garage. The house had come on the market in October at $1.75 million.
The Grammy-nominated Jewel, 34, released her first independent album, "Lullaby," this month. Murray, 39, had been tearing it up on ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" before he was cowboy-booted off in the semifinals.
Kilcher and Murray make their home in Stephenville, Texas, where they own a ranch.
