Lots of cheering in Obama, Japan
Obama, which means "little beach" in Japanese, is a former fishing town of 32,000, that now relies almost entirely on tourism. So Obama's success has been a welcome boon.
OBAMA, Japan — At least one Japanese city kept a close eye on the outcome of Tuesday's U.S. presidential election.
The citizens of Obama, Japan, were ecstatic. Dozens of supporters swarmed the stage and joined hands, jumping up and down as they chanted "Obama! Obama! Obama!"
Obama, which means "little beach" in Japanese, is a former fishing town of 32,000, that now relies almost entirely on tourism. So Obama's success has been a welcome boon.
The Kenyan ambassador to Japan, Dennis N.O. Awori, swept into town and said his country was considering building a special airport near Obama's ancestral village so that he could fly in on Air Force One.
Obama's father was from Kenya.
