This seems to be the big news for movie watchers today: Netflix today ditches its previous $9.99/month plan for one DVD at a time and unlimited streaming, replacing it with two separate plans (one for streaming; one for rental disks, one at a time) at $7.99 each. Subscribers who have not made a change in their plans will be automatically enrolled in the two new plans starting today. That would be a 60 percent price hike, which seems rather steep. A survey cited by the Hollywood Reporter today estimated that 22 percent of Netflix's subscribers will cancel the service, switching to Hulu, Redbox, or Amazon.

I'm not a Netflix subscriber myself; never have been, due to numerous screenings in the evening, screener DVDs sent to me by studios, and a desire to occasionally just read a book on my rare nights at home.
