Simon Pegg and Nick Frost do "Star Wars"
Posted by Moira Macdonald
Seems like I spend a lot of time on this blog confessing to crushes, but let me just say that I have a great fondness for Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, the British comedians best known on these shores for "Shaun of the Dead," "Hot Fuzz," and the upcoming "Paul" (opening Friday). A few years back the pair came to Seattle, along with Edgar Wright (who directed "Shaun" and "Hot Fuzz"), and we had a jolly interview that involved them telling stories about how, years ago, they used to sit around Pegg's empty flat (his girlfriend had broken up with him and taken all the furniture) and throw lit matches through a hole in an empty armoire when they got bored after watching "The X-Files." Pegg made me an origami swan (which will make sense to those who have seen "Hot Fuzz"), which is still on my desk somewhere. (I have done many, many interviews in my time, but nobody has ever before or since made me an origami animal. Somebody did once make me a little boat, crafted from a candy, a hatpin, and a sugar wrapper, but I can't remember who it was even though the boat is sitting right here.)
Anyway, Pegg and Frost are a pair of funny, likable guys, and "Paul" shows that off nicely. As does this clip, made while the two of them were shooting "Paul" and decided to re-create "Star Wars," as you do. Fun stuff.
