A little roundup of movie news today:

-- Word is that a fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie is in the works, with DIsney pursuing Rob Marshall ("Chicago") to direct. Gore Verbinski, who directed the first three movies, has moved on. Johnny Depp is supposedly set to once again don the eyeliner for Captain Jack Sparrow, who you'd really think would have gotten himself killed by now. (Falling overboard in a rum-induced stupor? Bopping his head on the mast? Victim of a hit man hired by some wench's husband?) Me, I love Depp, but I think this franchise ship has already sailed. You?

-- Speaking of franchises, "Alien" looks set to be resurrected, with screenwriter Jon Spaihts engaged to write a prequel to the original 1979 film, for Ridley Scott to direct. This will be Scott's first "Alien" movie in thirty years; other filmmakers helmed its three sequels.

-- And Jennifer Aniston will play an older woman who seeks out younger men in "Pumas," written by Melissa Stack and to be directed by Wayne McClammy. That last name doesn't ring a bell? He directed and co-wrote the very funny shorts "I'm F**king Matt Damon" and its sequel, "I'm F**king Ben Affleck" that were a Web sensation last year.
