Bill would permit day spas to offer beer or wine
Haircut, shampoo, pedicure -- and a free drink?
That would be possible if Sen. Karen Keiser’s, D-Kent, bill passes.
Senate Bill 6060 would allow day spas to serve a single glass of beer or wine, free of charge.
A day spa must offer at least three of the following services to serve alcohol: hair shampooing, cutting, styling and dyeing, manicures, pedicures, facials and massages.
She said businesses should serve beer or wine only to customers who are in the spa for at least an hour.
Businesses already offer refreshments such as tea, so more options should be available, she said.
A similar bill was introduced in 2006 by Sen. Mark Schoesler, R-Ritzville, but didn’t pass.
Keiser said she knows this is a tough year for the Legislature, but “I think it’s nice to have lighter moments."
A hearing on the bill is scheduled Monday. Keiser said training and licensing requirements for businesses would be discussed.
