Seattle City Council aims to have homelessness plan by July

The Seattle City Council Monday unanimously agreed to adopt a plan to address the survival needs of homeless people by July. The resolution, introduced by Council member Nick Licata, calls for the council to look at a variety of options including a semi-permanent tent encampment, expanded shelter opportunities in churches, purchasing a building or motel or providing more rent-assistance vouchers.
The council will examine the costs and legal issues surrounding the different options and recommend one or more for action this summer.
Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn in October proposed a semi-permanent tent encampment at the city-owned Sunny Jim site on Airport Way South, but council members raised concerns about cost, zoning and a lack of services in the neighborhood.
