DelBene campaign fund reaches $1.6 million
Posted by Katherine Long
Medina Democrat Suzan DelBene, a former Microsoft executive, says she has raised $378,250 in the last three months in her bid to unseat Republican Rep. Dave Reichert in the Eighth Congressional District.
No word yet on how much Reichert, who recently had a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser in Bellevue with House minority leader John Boehner, has raised from his supporters. The detailed report for the second quarter is due to the Federal Election Commission Thursday, but DelBene's campaign released the general numbers Wednesday afternoon.
The DelBene campaign says it has more than $1 million cash on hand, and has raised a total of $1.65 million from a total of about 2,700 donors in the run-up to the August primary.
Last quarter, Reichert was slightly ahead of DelBene, raising $1.3 million to her $1.27 million. At that time, almost half of DelBene's money, or a little more than $500,000, came from her own contributions to the campaign.
According to the DelBene campaign, 76 percent of the donors this quarter were first-time donors to the campaign - up from 68 percent in the first quarter.
Can DelBene raise as much as Darcy Burner, Reichert's Democratic challenger in 2008? And even if she can, how much will it matter?
Burner, who had a following outside Washington state because of her views about ending the Iraq war, ended up raising $4.5 million to Reichert's $2.9 million. But Reichert still beat her, winning about 53 percent of the vote.
