Constantine picks up suburban newspaper endorsements

Posted by Keith Ervin

Susan Hutchison may have won the endorsement of Washington's largest newspaper, but her opponent, Dow Constantine, has picked up the support of four suburban newspapers: the Mercer Island Reporter, the Issaquah Press, the SnoValley Star and the Sammamish Review.

The Mercer Island Reporter wrote that Constantine, a Metropolitan King County Council member since 2002, has experience that is "much more complex and multi-faceted than that of his opponent." The Issaquah Press wrote that Constantine is "well grounded in the nitty-gritty details the county executive needs to master."

Hutchison, a former KIRO TV news anchor and now director of an arts and sciences foundation, was endorsed by the editorial board of The Seattle Times.

Both candidates have won endorsements from a number of suburban mayors. In the eight-way primary, Hutchison's greatest strength was in suburban and rural areas, while Constantine did best in Seattle.
