Mallahan battles flu in final week of campaign

Posted by Jim Brunner

The flu bug doesn't care that it's a week until election day.

Seattle mayoral candidate Joe Mallahan has found his plans for the stretch run disrupted since he came down with the flu this week.

He's been largely out of commission since Monday afternoon, said Tina Podlodowski, his campaign chair. She's been filling in for Mallahan at some events.

Mallahan has had a fever of 101. He's been resting and on Tamiflu, Podlodowski said. His wife and a daughter have also been sick.

While it's rough losing precious days so close to the election, the campaign decided Mallahan should recover some before resuming his run of neighborhood events.

"You would not want the headline in the paper 'Mallahan makes Ballard sick,'" Podlodowski said.

The campaign says Mallahan hopes to be back at work soon.
