New ad likens Hutchison to Palin, sorta
Posted by Bob Young
Public employee unions and abortion rights advocates revealed a new TV ad today against Susan Hutchison, candidate for King County executive. See it here.
The ad was done independently of the campaign of Hutchison's opponent, Dow Constantine. It was produced by a political action committee, People for Qualified Leadership, that gets most of its funding from the Service Employees International Union, Planned Parenthood Votes!, and Washington State Council of Firefighters.
Dana Laurent, spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood Votes!, said the group expected to buy about $100,000 worth of TV time on cable stations such as Bravo, Lifetime and MSNBC.
The 30-second ad says Hutchison is a "true conservative" and notes her contributions to Republicans such as the presidential campaign of George W. Bush. It also says she's "crafty" because she's not telling Planned Parenthood where she stands on abortion. Called "Wink," the ad ends by saying "look out Sarah Palin."
Hutchison called the ad "outlandish" and said the Palin comparison was "funny."
"The stereotyping of women who run for office is silly. I'm unique. She's unique. Christine Gregoire is unique. But I think it demonstrates the narrow view we find from my opponent, who likes to lump anyone who doesn't represent his point-of-view into the same bucket."
