Mallahan campaign $95,000 in the hole

Posted by Jim Brunner

The latest campaign financial reports are due today by midnight, and Seattle mayoral candidate Joe Mallahan's shows he's raised a total of $555,000 (including $230,000 of his own money.)

With three weeks to go before election day, Mallahan reports about $31,600 cash on hand, but he has liabilities of about $126,800 (mostly for TV ad buys.)

That leaves his campaign $95,000 in the hole.

I asked campaign treasurer Jason Bennett whether Mallahan will cut his campaign another check. Bennett said no, they'lll look to make up the deficit in the final weeks of the election, "and beyond."

It's not unusual for campaigns to show a deficit at various points during the election season. But this seems like a big one. We'll have more details on Mallahan and Mike McGinn's fundraising numbers as the reports roll in.
