Joe Mallahan writes his campaign another check

Posted by Emily Heffter

Seattle mayoral candidate Joe Mallahan gave another $30,000 to his campaign after coming in second in the primary last month. Mallahan, a cell-phone company executive, kicked off his campaign in the spring with a $200,000 donation.

In all, Mallahan has raised $425,000 for his campaign. His spokeswoman, Charla Neuman, said Mallahan put the $30,000 into the campaign to pay off debt he accrued fighting last-minute negative robo-calls and ads from labor and business groups.

Some of those same labor and business groups are endorsing Mallahan, now that they know Mayor Greg Nickels is out of the running for another term after coming in third in the primary.

Neuman said Mallahan won't put any more of his own money into his campaign effort.

"His wife won't do it again," she said.

Mallahan's opponent, Mike McGinn, just broke $100,000 last month with about $103,000. McGinn's total includes $9,400 he loaned the campaign.
