National mayors group to replace Nickels in January

Posted by Emily Heffter

Two months ago, Mayor Greg Nickels was named president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, a prestigious post that put him in a unique position to lobby Congress and the White House.

Today, of course, he conceded the primary election, ensuring that his national post will disappear along with his local one.

Elizabeth Kautz, the mayor of Burnsville, Minn., will take over as president in January and preside over the group's January meeting., according to a statement from the conference.
