New Seattle mayoral ads send snowstorm hints
Posted by Emily Heffter
Mayoral candidate Jan Drago released two television ads this week that reveal who she considers her main competition.
In the first, she says she's the "only major candidate" to oppose Seattle's bag fee. A couple of local political blogs have pointed out this morning that James Donaldson also opposes the bag fee. By most measures, including a new poll earlier this week, Donaldson is as major a candidate as Drago is.
The "major candidates" pictured in Drago's television spot are Mayor Greg Nickels and Joe Mallahan.
Here's the ad:
The other ad ends with a cartoon of Nickels holding a plastic bag and ... a snow shovel. The ad never mentioned the city's poor response to December snowstorms, but it's clearly hoping to remind voters about the mayor who was in charge of that response.
A recent mailer from Mallahan gives voters the same kind of nudge. In a square pamphlet about Mallahan's experience, text floating across a background of white snowy stuff asks, "What kind of leader does it take to clear a path to a better Seattle?"
