Big Plastic puts up another $500,000 against Seattle bag fee

Posted by Jim Brunner

The American Chemistry Council, representing the plastics industry, pumped another $500,000 Friday into the effort to defeat Seattle's 20-cent fee on paper and plastic grocery bags, according to a campaign-finance report filed Sunday.

That brings the group's total to early $740,000 -- virtually all of the cash the anti-bag fee campaign has raised. (7-11 has also donated $10,000).

The pro-bag fee group, the Seattle Green Bag Campaign, has raised about $65,000, mostly from local environmentalists.

In case you missed it, Seattle Times reporter Marc Ramirez wrote about the debate over the bag fee on Saturday.
