Jan Drago to miss Seattle Times Editorial Board interview

Posted by Emily Heffter

The Seattle Times Editorial Board is planning to Webcast its interview of the candidates for Seattle mayor on July 21. But one candidate will be missing: City Councilmember Jan Drago said she couldn't miss the City Council Transportation Committee briefing on the Pedestrian Master Plan.

"It's been scheduled," she said, "for literally months."

Editorial-Page Editor Ryan Blethen said the board "pushed to" get Drago there, but she insisted she couldn't miss the Transportation Committee, which she chairs. Instead, the Editorial Board will meet with Drago individually, and off-camera.

A couple of Drago's opponents have criticized her meeting attendance record, and the Seattle P-I reported on its politics blog last week that a colleague, Councilmember Richard McIver, took a shot at Drago for missing a committee meeting last week.

An aide to McIver told me the council member wasn't criticizing her for being absent. He was suggesting Drago should be raising money for her campaign.
