Drago compares Nickels to Clinton -- and not in a good way

Posted by Emily Heffter

Jan Drago put out a press release comparing Mayor Greg Nickels' claim that he didn't technically cross a Providence, R.I., picket line to President Clinton's claim that he didn't inhale marijuana.

Nickels attended the U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting over the weekend, where he was sworn in as president of the organization. A firefighters' picket line was set up across the street, and Nickels' staff said he didn't technically cross the picket line because his hotel was attached to the convention center where the meeting was held.

On Monday, Deputy Mayor Tim Ceis called me to point out that plenty of union workers were in the convention center and hotel during the firefighters' demonstration. They had a job to do, Ceis said, and so did the mayor.

It's fixed on her Web site, but Drago misspelled Nickels' name throughout the release she e-mailed to reporters Monday night, including in the headline: "Mayor Nickles' 'I didn't inhale' moment."
