Susan Hutchison claims bipartisan support

Posted by Keith Ervin

King County executive candidate Susan Hutchison moved her campaign a bit more into public view this morning, officially filing as a candidate and beefing up her Web site with a nonpartisan look.

Hutchison, who has contributed to the campaigns of Republican candidates including George W. Bush, Mike Huckabee, Dino Rossi and Dave Reichert, features two prominent Democrats at the top of a list of supporters, titled "Susan's Bi-Partisan Steering Committee."

State Auditor Brian Sonntag and former U.S. Rep Don Bonker, both Democrats, head the list, immediately followed by two Republicans, state Attorney General Rob McKenna and former Secretary of State Ralph Munro.

Other committee members include health-care executive Cheryl Scott, wireless-industry executive John Stanton, and Seattle Symphony conductor Gerard Schwarz.

The Web site begins to lay out some policy positions, saying Hutchison will "work to control the rising tax burden on working families," will encourage transit ridership with GPS bus tracking and "work to ensure the Puget Sound Partnership has the necessary resources" to clean up the Sound.

Hutchison, a former KIRO-TV anchor who now runs the Charles Simonyi Fund for Arts and Sciences, has not appeared in any public debates with other candidates and has granted very few media interviews.
