Drago poll tests her viability for mayor

Posted by Emily Heffter

With the filing deadline just a month away, departing Seattle City Councilmember Jan Drago has commissioned a telephone poll to determine her viability as a candidate for mayor.

The robo-poll, which called my home phone yesterday, mentioned a series characteristics of the longtime council member and asked if those make respondents more likely to vote for her. Does it help, for example, that she's a woman? That she used to own some Haagen Dazs stores? That she worked on legislation to bring more dog parks to Seattle?

Then the poll asks respondents to choose a candidate "if the election were held today" -- in a primary with the five other candidates in the race, and in a general election matchup between incumbent Mayor Greg Nickels and Drago.

Drago said this week it will be a couple more weeks before she makes a decision about running for mayor. But the poll shows she's seriously considering getting into the race.
