Pentagon: Military cooperation on hold after coup

The Pentagon says it has put cooperation with the Honduran military on hold.

AP National Security Writer

WASHINGTON —

The Pentagon says it has put cooperation with the Honduran military on hold.

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman says the United States has "postponed" joint operations in light of last weekend's military coup against that country's president.

Whitman would not be specific, but the suspension could be far-reaching. The United States runs Central American security and counter-narcotics operations from an air base in Honduras.

Whitman says only operations affecting Honduras itself are on hold.

The U.S. government is reviewing further moves to protest the coup.
