Rice, Cooke are co-chairs of panel advising on county-executive job

Former Seattle Mayor Norm Rice and Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke will co-chair a blue-ribbon committee advising the Metropolitan King County Council on candidates for interim county executive.

Former Seattle Mayor Norm Rice and Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke will co-chair a blue-ribbon committee advising the Metropolitan King County Council on candidates for interim county executive.

The County Council on Monday appointed the 16-member committee to interview and make recommendations on candidates to replace departing Executive Ron Sims. Sims, who has been nominated by President Obama as deputy secretary of housing and urban development, plans to resign as executive when the Senate confirms his nomination.

The interim executive would serve until voters choose a long-term executive in November.

The motion sponsored by council members Jane Hague and Dow Constantine urges the Municipal League of King County to do its own, separate review of candidates.
