Dems call Ramsey 'arrogant' for predicting GOP will win Tenn. governor's race in 2010
Tennessee Democrats are criticizing Republican Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey for predicting the winner of the GOP's gubernatorial nomination will beat any Democratic candidate in 2010.
Tennessee Democrats are criticizing Republican Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey for predicting the winner of the GOP's gubernatorial nomination will beat any Democratic candidate in 2010.
Ramsey, of Blountville, has formed an exploratory committee for a gubernatorial bid. Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam, U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp of Chattanooga and Memphis prosecutor Bill Gibbons are the other major Republican candidates so far.
Ramsey told the Hamilton County Pachyderm Club on Monday that "one of us four" will end up in the governor's mansion.
State Democratic Party Chairman Chip Forrester calls Ramsey's comments "arrogant," and says Democrats are assembling a well-qualified field of candidates.
Former state House Majority Leader Kim McMillan of Clarksville and Nashville businessman Ward Cammack have formally declared they will seek the Democratic nomination.
