Stumbing block to EPA confirmaton resolved

A stumbling block to quick Senate confirmation of President Barack Obama's nominee to head the Environmental Protection Agency has been resolved.

WASHINGTON —

A stumbling block to quick Senate confirmation of President Barack Obama's nominee to head the Environmental Protection Agency has been resolved.

A spokesman for Republican Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming says the senator has agreed to confirming Lisa Jackson as EPA administrator by unanimous Senate consent.

Barrasso removed his objection after talking to Jackson and Carol Browner, who is assuming a new White House post to coordinate energy and climate-related issues. Barrasso objected to confirming Jackson because he wanted clarification on what Browner's role would be on EPA issues.

Barrasso spokesman Greg Keeley says the senator spoke to Browner Thursday and is now "much more comfortable" that she will be subject to congressional accountability.
