Michelle Obama is calling her new life as first lady "a bit surreal" and says she's ready for such a high-profile role in politics.
She said she considers it very exciting "because I think there's a lot that can be done with this platform."
Mrs. Obama said she believes her husband Barack's long campaign for the White House "gets you ready for it." She said she and her husband now have been "two years into an absence of privacy. We're probably more used to it than one would imagine."
In an interview broadcast Wednesday on ABC's "Good Morning America," Mrs. Obama said that she and her husband have "come to grips" with the way their lives have changed "and we welcome the challenges as long as we can do some good stuff."
She said she has been heartened that her husband has been able to have dinner with the family regularly recently after the long campaign.
