Washington state's Democratic vice chairwoman endorsed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Thursday, bucking a wave of superdelegate support for Sen. Barack Obama.

Clinton's campaign Thursday announced the support of Eileen Macoll, a superdelegate from Pullman. She said her choice was based largely on a belief that Clinton offers the best chance of ending the Iraq war successfully.

Macoll is one of 17 Washington superdelegates. Six have endorsed Clinton; seven have publicly sided with Obama.

Elsewhere, Gail Rasmussen became Oregon's third superdelegate in two days to come out in support of Obama. He also lost a pledged delegate to Clinton in Louisiana, based on totals released by the state party after the state convention.

Obama now has 1,982 total delegates, 44 short of the number needed for the nomination. Clinton has 1,782.
