Friday, July 30, 2004 - Page updated at 01:31 P.M. Readers react to Kerry's nomination acceptance speech
Thomas (Sam) Soriano,
Seattle
I knew before listening to his speech that I would be voting for him, but I was truly inspired by the hope that he offered us as senior citizens and for all Americans and our country. I do believe he and Edwards will work hard to get our country back on track and gain the respect of not only people within our own country but the respect of other countries once again. He appears to be very sincere and will definitely work for the good and betterment of the country. We need stem-cell research--I have a grandson who is paralyzed and this would have been so beneficial to him. Go John Kerry!!!
Dorothy Paladichuk,
Sidney, MT
"Surprised the balloons and confetti were able to float down to the floor with all the hot air Sen. Kerry was spewing. Fact is, Kerry's record on defense, intelligence, you name it, is something he cannot run from, let alone on! Been in the Senate since 1984 and sponsored a total of two, count them, two bills. There's leadership for you! The Democratic party is fast becoming a willing puppet of the secular left, bent on eroding the foundation of this nation. As the baby-boomers continue to age, that very large class of citizenry will continue to move further to the center or right, and the Dem's will be left with the ACLU, MoveOn, and Al Gore...a group bent on turning this country into Sweden, with longer summers!"
Owen Ashurst,
Cle Elum, WA
"Kerry's speech had something that appeals to all voters. The entire convention (save Obama and Sharpton) seems to have been fatally focussed at getting the swing vote while forgetting that there was the left to whom Kerry still needed to appeal... But Kerry's speech spoke to both of these constituencies and, barring any catastrophic events before election day, may have ensured victory come November 2. Even those voters who favored Kucinich, like myself, can now be able to vote Kerry rather than Nader or Cobb."
Cameron Collins,
Seattle
"I think Mr. Kerry's speech was exactly what it was! A very big hollywood extravaganza. He was coached and prepared extensively and openly. He had all of Hollywood Money behind him, plus his wife's money. How could he fail? But I did not see a real person behind that speach. Only as an actor, saying only what would be palitable about himself. He did not state anything about his record voting in congress. He avoided giving us who and why he votes. I was not fooled by his bravado. They teach that at any acting class. Sorry! MW"
Marta Wilson,
Easton, WA
John Kerry delivered an eloquent and powerful speech which highlighted his history of staunch leadership and strength of character. His inspiring message and positive plan for our nation is a welcome respite from the negative politics we have had to endure in the recent past. I look forward to honest and steadfast leadership in America and John Kerry proved to me that he will provide it.

"LOVED IT HE HAS MY VOTE"
Lawton Bomer,
Palestine, TX
"Watching John Kerry last night I saw something I didn't expect, conviction and a true belief in his ideas. When was the last time we had a candidate who truly believed he could make a difference? Not just saying the right thing but actually believing. How he does in the election is anybody's guess. But he has my support and my vote."
Scott Hedlund,
San Diego, CA
"So, let me get this straight: Kerry's not going to raise taxes on the middle class, but will raise taxes on 2% of the population (the rich), "close tax loopholes on corporations" and that's going to magically end the deficit, pay for healthcare for everyone, pay for everyone's college tuition, pay for operations in Iraq, put fire engines on the streets and give everyone a pony? Sounds like more blah, blah, blah from the DNC."
Craig Baker,
Seattle
"For those who have not followed Senator John Kerry's career, he defined who he was both in terms of his military career and his social conscience."
Joanne Williams,
Lake Geneva, WI
"John Kerry's speech exceeded my expectations. I was impressed and even awed that he was that good. Watch for a red alert tomorrow to take the attention off of how great Kerry's speech was. Bush will try to distract the media away from all the praise Kerry is getting."
