Polar Plunge participants escape the 42-degree water off South Lake Union Park on Friday, part of the Special Olympics fundraiser and a preview of Saturday’s event. They took 20 plunges into Lake Union, one every thirty minutes from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The Special Olympics Polar Plunge is a fundraising effort organized by law enforcement agencies around Washington state. This weekend, Seattle will be plunging at South Lake Union Park in Seattle on Saturday, February 11. Check-in is at 10:00am, there's a costume contest at 11:30am and the plunging begins at noon.

Jumping in a cold lake is tough, but when it's for a good cause...?
