The interracial community choir, made up of about 50 individuals from around Western Washington, is preparing to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Sunday, Feb. 19. The group, which sings Negro spirituals a cappella, will take the stage with about 300 performers from around the country and guest conductor Jacqueline Hairston. "The Sound of the Northwest" choir will also be featured in an ensemble spotlight series, where they will perform as a solo group for 25 minutes. The choir strives to increase awareness and appreciation of African-American musical heritage. The group is taking contributions to help cover the cost of the trip.
