Steven Osgood, 27, of Seattle, prepares to fight in a 20-foot ring of fire Saturday, June 4, 2011, at Ragnaroc, a celebration at Camano Island State Park of the Norse myth of the end of the world. More than a dozen warriors took turns fighting one-on-one with wooden weapons in a fiery setting.

For several days last week, members of the Empire of Medieval Pursuits battled with full armor and wooden weapons in Camano Island State Park to earn the right to spar in Saturday's final battle arena, a 20-foot ring of fire. The group of medieval and early history enthusiasts hosts events focusing on various times and places in history.

Last week's event, called Ragnaroc, celebrates the Norse myth of the end of the world, and recreates the last battle between good and evil in a fiery setting. About 125 people attended, with most from the Pacific Northwest and some as far as Florida.

Combat tournaments, classes on Norse knitting, primitive fire making and belly dancing were held throughout the week. Attendees wore costumes from different periods and places - as long as they were from a period before 1750 and focused on Europe, Middle East and Asia.
