A 3-week-old western lowland gorilla is coddled by her mother, Amanda, on a mid-January afternoon at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle in 2007. The infant is gripping her mother firmly, nursing and vocalizing, all signs of being healthy. The pair have been hanging out in public areas in some early afternoons.
