Army Corps of Engineers workers scrape barnacles off the walls of a filling culvert that runs next to the chamber floor of the large Chittenden Lock in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. Scraping the barnacles off reduces hazards to juvenile salmon swimming through the locks. The 92-year-old engineering marvel will be closed from Nov. 12th to Nov. 25th for annual general maintenance.
