An unoccupied five-story apartment building in Renton Highlands went up in flames in spectacular fashion Tuesday evening with the plume of smoke visible as far away as Tacoma. In the chaos that followed, a Renton police officer who was directing traffic was hit by a vehicle and injured, according to witnesses. The fire was caused by a worker using a torch on the roof.
