This was a routine assignment covering the president coming to and leaving Boeing Field. President Bush came to town to speak to about 400 people at a private fundraiser for Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Bellevue, and the Republican Party.
As I was waiting for the president to return, I noticed a dark black cloud on the horizon. In a private room at the airport, the president spent several minutes meeting with the family of a soldier who died in Iraq. As the president emerged from the meeting, the rain began to fall. As he walked toward his plane the rain turned into a deluge and he started to run. I ran for my 400mm lens and made this picture of the president hanging on while giving people one last wave goodbye.
