An Encinitas lifeguard on a jet-ski watches surfers at Swami's in Encinitas, Calif. Wednesday. Encinitas lifeguards reported that they have made over 40 rescues at the popular break since the west swell hit on Wednesday morning. A large pacific storm near Hawaii is expected to produce waves up to 18 feet at beaches in Southern California.
