Israeli troops invade Gaza, world reacts
Israeli soldiers maneuver on the Israeli-Gaza border on January 3, 2009, waiting to deploy into the Gaza Strip. Israeli tanks rolled into Gaza late Saturday and troops clashed with Hamas fighters in a step-up to an eight-day offensive that has killed hundreds of Palestinians and caused widespread destruction. The Israeli army said "large numbers" of troops had moved into Gaza and the government called up thousands of reservists to take part in the ground offensive to end rocket attacks by Hamas and its militant allies.
